Results-Driven Dog Training in Warwickshire

Looking for Results-Driven Dog Training in Warwickshire? Dog training isn’t simply about teaching your dog a list of commands. Real progress starts with understanding the behaviour, identifying what is causing it and creating a structured training plan that works in everyday life.

Bruno and Vinny are two 10-month-old Lab/Cocker Spaniel mixes who came to us with several common behavioural challenges. Their owners wanted to enjoy life with their two dogs — going for walks, taking them on days out and having two happy, well-behaved companions.

At the time of their assessment, however, everyday life was proving difficult.

🐕 The Behavioural Issues

Bruno and Vinny were experiencing several issues that can become increasingly challenging as young dogs enter adolescence:

  • Lead pulling
  • Reactivity towards other dogs
  • Barking and frustration
  • Jumping up
  • Over-excitement
  • Difficulty settling and switching off
  • Limited socialisation
  • Challenges managing two young dogs together

Their lead pulling and reactivity had become so difficult that their owners were avoiding normal walks altogether.

They were visiting a secure field around three times a week, but weren’t getting regular walks in the wider world.

🔎 Looking Beyond the Behaviour

This is where Results-Driven Dog Training in Warwickshire starts with understanding the bigger picture.

Rather than simply trying to stop Bruno and Vinny from pulling or reacting, we needed to understand what was contributing to those behaviours.

Both dogs were intelligent, food motivated and already knew basic training such as sit, stay and wait. However, they were also young, energetic dogs with limited physical exercise and limited exposure to the outside world.

Without regular opportunities to explore, sniff, experience different environments and practise calm behaviour, their excitement was becoming increasingly difficult for their owners to manage.

🧠 Two Puppies, Two Personalities

Bruno and Vinny are littermates, but they already have noticeably different personalities.

Vinny is more mild-mannered and appears less confident, while Bruno is more confident and tends to take the lead.

Being littermates does not automatically mean that dogs will develop behavioural problems, but it is important to give each dog opportunities to develop independence, confidence and their own relationship with their owners.

The dogs had also previously had a fight which resulted in an injury to Bruno. Although this appeared to have been related to a ball, there were no other clear signs of resource guarding.

For this reason, we recommended increasing their separate walking, training and interaction time.

🎯 A Training Plan Built Around the Dogs

Rather than trying to tackle everything at once, we created a structured plan.

The first priority was getting Bruno and Vinny back out walking safely and regularly.

We planned to begin with separate walks using harnesses and long lines, showing their owners how to make shorter walks productive while gradually building their skills.

The training plan includes:

  • Separate reactivity assessments
  • Lead-walking training
  • Settle training
  • Jumping-up training
  • Focus and engagement
  • Building confidence and independence
  • Gradually working around other dogs

Each session lasts 45 minutes, allowing us to assess progress and adapt the training as the dogs develop.

📈 Why Results Take Time

There is no single exercise that will fix reactivity, pulling or over-excitement overnight.

Real behavioural change comes from understanding the dog, meeting their needs, building the right skills and practising consistently.

Bruno and Vinny have plenty of strengths to build on. They are intelligent, food motivated and already have a foundation of basic obedience. Most importantly, their owners want to give them the opportunity to have a better life together.
